Uterine irritation: Any time you have an IUD your uterus could be very reactive to something like having a smear done. Take an NSAID if you need to (but beware that pregnancy can happen with an IUD and these on board!) and apply heat and it will probably pass. Put a warm compress wherever it hurts. As long as you are not bleeding there is nothing much to worry about. If bleeding, or fever, see your GP.
