Orthodontics: Get you teeth cleaned before you start your braces and regularly during your orthodontic treatment. It is very important that your teeth, gums, and mouth are healthy at the start to have beautiful and healthy teeth at the end.

Recommend cleaning: Orthodontic treatment is an investment of both time and money, so it’s critical to take care of your gums and teeth during your orthodontic treatment to ensure that when your braces are removed your teeth are not only straight, but most importantly, decay and periodontal disease free.

Tarter: Tarter can cause gum infection, gum/bone recession, and can inhibit or prevent tooth movement. Teeth must be immaculately clean (glass smooth root surfaces + no gingival inflammation) before tooth movement begins, and must be maintained throughout your time in appliances. Sounds like you would benefit from collaboration between both Orthodontic and Periodonic Specialists...see both.
