I've started taking folic acid as we are trying to conceive. i am 36 in june. my periods are usually very heavy, but period now is odd and light (not marking pads) but when i wipe it does seem heavy like normal. is this anything to worry about?

I think not: What you're describing does not sound worrisome in any way. This would also not be related to folic acid supplementation.
