Reduced uptake: Photopenia (cold) means reduction of photons being imaged in nuclear medicine or PET imaging. Increased uptake is usually active or hot. On bone scans photopenia be caused by metals, necrotic tumor, bone infarction, deficient bone, or infection with ischemia (decreased blood supply).
