Doctor can recheck: Triamcinolone is a stronger cortisone (steroid) cream. Over-the-counter hydrocortisone is a weaker one. In such cases, the prescribing doctor and/or a dermatologist can recheck the face. If in the meantime, a cream is needed, patients can often wean down to hydrocortisone cream (no prescription needed) while waiting to see the doctor within one week. These steroid creams are for short-term use.
