Caffeine and pregnancy: Caffeine in general is a category C drug in pregnancy, meaning: use with caution if benefits outweigh risks, animal studies showed risk and no human studies, or no animal or human studies. It crosses the placenta and reaches the baby, stays in its system for several days, but only stays in yours for several hours. If craving for coffee or tea, use decaff products, only one tenth the dose of caffeine
