Not all stutter: Gorlin syndrome is due to mutations in the ptch1 gene which normally functions as a tumor suppressor gene. These patients have increased risk of basal cell carcinomas of skin. Mutations in this gene are not thought to cause speech problems. Some cases of gorlin syndrome are due to larger deletions of chromosome 9q22 affecting other genes near ptch1 that may affect stuttering.
