A member asked:

If 35 is 'cut-off' point for many pregnancy issues, is this for conception or giving birth by?i'm 31, want 2 kids but new job means 6m-12m ideal wait.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Age issues: Risk of a chromosome defect rises to about 1% by 35, the same risk as an amnio, so historically it became a marker for age issues. There is always a basic risk (~4% ) of unexpected outcome with any pregnancy.Today we have non-invasive ways to monitor those risks, and many women are quite successful with pregnancies into their 40's.A visit with a genetic counselor may give you more comforting info.
