Multifactorial: There are multiple causes of depression such as : having a positive family history , brain chemistry changes, medical illnesses (i.E thyroid disease, perimenopause), side effects from medications, major life stressors, substance use/abuse and history of abuse/trauma.

Need a sleep test?: Obstructive sleep apnea, characterized by snoring, gasping, sleep deprivation and anatomical "asphyxiation" can lead to high blood pressure, heart attack, stroke and depression by robbing the brain of needed oxygen and deep sleep. Chronic fatigue can lead to depression and death (sleep @ the wheel?). Get a sleep test asap. I have referred your query to dr. Ali for other causes of depression.
