Purifying water: Although a rapid boil for one minute followed by cooling is much better, chlorine bleach can also be used to purify water. If the water is relatively clear, use three drops per 1 quart of water, and wait for 30 minutes. If it is cloudy, try to filter it first with whatever you have available, followed by five drops per quart, and wait for 60 minutes. Avoid water contaminated by chemicals.

8 drops per gal : The reference from cdc.gov recommends 1/8 teaspoon or 8 drops per gal of water is clear and 1/4 tsp or 16 drops if cloudy, shake and wait 30 min. Use regular, not scented (lemon) Clorox. Container should be pre-sanitized with 1 tsp of Clorox per quart of water for 30 minutes.
