What symptoms does a gi look for to do exploratory surgery nausea vomiting unbearable pain doubling over and crying really bad all the time?

Maybe not so easy...: Generally, exploratory surgery is judged warranted based on the severity and duration of unremitting or worsening symptoms, particularly if a diagnosis remains uncertain despite appropriate testing. Maybe in your case its time for a second GI opinion?

Varies: It varies in part based upon the severity of the patients likely diagnosis. For example, a person with a bowel obstruction of unclear etiology would expire if an exploratory surgery was not done to repair the problem. An exploratory laparoscopy can be done if patient is thought to possibly have endometriosis, but diagnosis not sure. Attempt to evaluate without surgery first.
