Check pregnancy test: Whenever a period is different or late, in a sexually active, ovulating woman, first make sure pregnancy is not the cause. Do a home pg test and follow the instructions exactly and make sure the kit has not expired. IF that is negative, see your doc, there are many causes of delayed periods, including thyroid hormone problems, and exam and possible tests may need to be done to correct problem.

Irregular menses: Check out this website and you'll find that you're not alone. Irregular menses is very common in young women. With that said, if you've engaged in unprotected sex, then you need to take a home pregnancy test. If negative, then see your Family Doc to discuss your birth control options. Hormonal contraception can regulate your periods (but doesn't protect against sexually transmitted diseases).
