Not quite!: Most of the iron in body floats attached to carrier proteins. These proteins carry the iron around the body to the places needed & release it to the tissues. Iron saturation is a measure of how much of the iron binding proteins are taken up by iron. If you have low iron the binding proteins go even up to try get more iron. The saturation is the % of these proteins taken up by iron.
