Consider an x ray: Persistent foot pain after trauma to the point where pain interferes with walking warrants a trip to urgent care for an x ray. If there is a fracture, walking on it may lead to delayed healing, lasting deformity or later arthritis. Foot x rays are low dose and safe. In the mean time, try to stay off it and consider ice for pain.

Yikes, that Hurts.: The immediate treatment involves the RICE protocol. Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation. This often is enough to control the swelling and pain. Depending on the pain, you might use crutches for a while. An open toes sandal can often do the trick. As long as there is no obvious angular deformity you may or may not need an x-ray. Consuls a specialist if you need help.
