A member asked:

Is bile duct cancer hereditary ? my mother died from it at age 65 in 2001.do i need any special tests ? what is the cause ? any new treatments ?

No screening: Bile duct cancer very rare. Appears with jaundice and with work up is either intrahepatic Klatskin tumor which can be resected or in Porta, a common duct lesion. Most cholangiolar Ca are virulent and metastasize to all sites in body. Chemo similar to that of pancreatic Ca but overall response poor. No preventative work up of value.
