Skin cancer: The difference between basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma has to do with how the skin cancer cells appear under the microscope as well as how they behave. Therefore it is important that they be diagnosed and treated as quickly as possible by a healthcare professional who specializes in this area.

Explanation: Th skin has several layers. The deepest layer is where the basal cells live. As they gtow toward the surface, the cells take on a flattened shape which are known as squamous. These cells are easily differentiated under the microscope. Cancers arrising from these cells are named accordingly. Melanoma aries from abnormal melanocytes in the skin. All can be influenced by sun exposure.
