No effect of poking: Enlarged regional lymph nodes essentially immune to the effect of local poking. They enlarge, become firm and can increase in number secondary to inflammation, primary or metastatic tumor to nodes. In the presence of a rash nodes will not enlarge unless break in skin from rash allows lymphatic invasion of bacteria or the rash is a reflection of a malignant skin lesion with spread to nodes.
