It depends: Topiramate combined with a mild stimulant has actually been approved for weight loss. Some people find their appetite goes down with use. Like most medicines, however, individual differences in responses can occur. Rather than say topiramate causes weight loss I would prefer to say it is associated with weight loss in some patients. The reasons for same I'm not sure anyone knows for sure.
