Finger pain: You should go visit your hand surgeon in clinic so they can examine you. Mallet finger, or baseball finger, is a rupture of the extensor tendons that extend your distal interphalangeal joint. Age? Do you have osteoarthritis? The index finger and pinky have additional extensor muscles (extensor indicis and digiti minimi) that allow them to be moved independently of your other fingers. Go to clinic.

Mallet finger injury: If the mallet finger has an altered range of motion then the adjacent fingers can be affected. All fingertips share a common flexor digitorum profundus muscle bely thus flexing once finger will result in flexion of the others unless one holds or limits motion. We do this in function by a complex system of intrinsic and extrinsic muscles. Also there can be "paradoxical" motion with stiffness
