AVerySensitiveArea: That's a very sensitive area.Lots of stuff packed into a small space. Any lesion down there has profound effects. Also, it's the most basic area for being awake. So it really depends on the cause of the stroke.If the result is just swelling,then it may go away & there will be some improvement.But if due to a lot of bleeding or a mass(like cancer)then the future is a lot dimmer. So ask for details.

This is bad: Damage to the midbrain' reticular activating system may preclude regaining consciousness. Or the person may be conscious but totally paralyzed. Be very sure you know the person's wishes especially before you allow any tubes to be placed.
