A member asked:

For what reason vomiting should not occur in stroke patients (cav) ceribro vescular accident and how can it be prevented?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Complex : Some strokes affecting lower brainstem are directly associated with nausea and vomiting, and those strokes which cause brain swelling and increased intracranial pressure can also result in vomiting. Big issue is possibility of aspiration of vomitus into lung which could cause breathing and infection problems. Anti-nausea drugs may help and tubes both for stomach and lung may be useful.
