Beets: Beets contain a natural pigment which is not absorbed by the body. It can change the stool color, commonly being confused for rectal bleeding. It is possible that it could also mask actual bleeding, so if your stool does not return to normal within a couple more days, you should get checked out by your doctor. Good luck.

Possibly: Beets have been known to do this but if you continue to note reddish material in your stool, your physician can do a quick stool test in the office to check for blood.
