Trim his nails &: file them smooth. Learn what situations precipitate the behavior. Buy soft rubber balls that fit in the palm of his hand. Tell him, " It hurts when you squeeze my hand, so I'm giving you a special "Mommy ball" to squeeze. Put one in his pocket. When he starts to squeeze your hand, squat down to his eye level. In a low, calm voice say, "Time to squeeze your ball". Praise him when he uses the ball.
