Estrogen: BCP have a potent estrogen in them. They are prescribed in this manner in an attempt to control the lining of the uterus. However, fibroids have estrogen receptors and birth control estrogen may actually "feed" the fibroid. There are options to birth control pills for abnormal uterine bleeding caused by fibroids.
