It depends: People with chronic hepatitis b infection need to be monitored closely for liver cancer (which can present with abdominal pain and weight loss) and liver failure (which can present with abdominal swelling, throwing up blood, turning yellow, or confusion). People can remain symptom free and not even know they have hbv, until the liver damage has become severe. At-risk people should be tested.
