Maybe and no: HPV may survive on underwear or toilet seat. But it doesn't matter. The virus is not be transmitted by sex contact with clothing, only by sex. STDs are not just infections that happen to involve the genital area. They are STDs because the bacteria and viruses that cause them cannot be transmitted except by intimate contact, usually intercourse. Don't worry about getting infected except by sex.

Direct skin to skin: To transmit this germ the infected person who is shedding virus must pass it directly to the skin during sexual contact. There appears to be a requirement that skin surfaces rub together to allow passage. Touching soiled clothing/toilets does not.
