A 44-year-old member asked:
Are heart palpitations a serious condition?

Dr. Shahin Tavackolianswered
Cardiology 23 years experience
May or may not be: Heart palpitations can be a sign of cardiac arrhythmias and dependent on the type of arrhythmia, the palpitations may be benign or malignant. However, there are numerous cases when a person has palpitations, but they are not having an arrhythmia. Anything from anxiety to premature beats of the heart (almost always benign) can cause the sensation of palpitations. A 24 hr heart monitor may help.

Could heart palpitations be fatal?

Dr. Scott Bolhackanswered

Heart palpatations: Palpitations are the sensation of an abnormal heart beat. Many types of irregular heartbeats are not harmful and are common for everyone throughout a normal day, we just do not feel them as palpitations, necessarily. However, some irregular heart beats are dangerous and require attention. This symptom should be reported immediately to your physician.

I suspect not: I know of nothing in the medical literature that says soy causes palpitations. There is some evidence that soy can help some menopausal women with palpitations.
