Throat?: A burning sensation there usually means some acid is coming up from the stomach. You should avoid anything spicy or that tastes like acid, avoid any alcohol at all, and sleep propped up on pillows instead of flat. Try a "floating" antacid such as gaviscon. If this doesn't help, you may need a test to see if there's an infection or ulcer.

Otolaryngologist: If the burning sensation is intermittent and more noticeable while lying down, acid reflux may be the problem. If the discomfort is almost constant and at times feels like a lump is present pharyngeal muscle tension is possible. In any event if the discomfort persists, consult an otolaryngologist for a careful throat exam.
