A member asked:

Will taking the contraceptive on the second day of my period provide immediate protection or will i have to wait a while first?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Wait: While taking an oral contraceptive early in the cycle when starting birth control does carry the highest likelihood of suppressing the maturation and development of follicles, thus preventing ovulation, it is best to use back up protection during the first cycle.
