Ampicillin: In English, the drug is ampicillin, a very safe drug -- a kind of penicillin. Entirely different than sufa-trimethoprim (Bactrim). What sort of infection do you have? Ampicillin would be good for some respiratory infections (strep throat, bronchitis, etc), but unusual treatment for any other bacterial infection. I would be especially skeptical if prescribed for male urinary or genital infection.

It is: A different chemical class of antibiotic, so there is no allergic cross-reactivity with Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim).
