A member asked:

Can there be an actual medical condition where irises turn red?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Sort of: In albinism, the iris is so thin that the red color of the back of the eye colors the iris by illumination from behind. There are several problems termed rubeiosis in which blood vessels grow over the iris causing a reddish over coloration when the condition is severe. There is no disease which will actually cause the iris to turn red itself.
