Pretty quickly: Although antidepressants can take a few weeks to work, the side effects usually show up in a few days.

Depends: Some s/e like loose stool are just temporaru for the 1st week or so as your body adapts. Others, like sexual dysfunction (if it should occur) can be pretty persistent. The important thing to keep in mind is that no 2 people are the same.

A 34-year-old member asked:
How long does it take for the side effects of sertraline (zoloft) to go away?

Days to weeks: I generally advise patients if they have side effects to give it a few days up to a week to see if it will subside. Of course this depends on the side effects. The most common with zoloft (sertraline) and meds in it's class is gastrointestinal. So if a person has terrible diarrhea, they may not be able to last more than a day or two before they need to stop the drug.
Also, dry mouth tends to stay.

Zoloft (sertraline): That depends - loose stools usually resolve within 14 days. For GI upset take with food or use probiotics. Many side effects resolve within days to several weeks. However, there may be some side effects that don't dissipate.

Many alternatives: There are many alternatives to zoloft (sertraline), (sertraline) and those chosen depend on what your doctor is trying to treat. Zoloft (sertraline) has many ssri cousins. Also there are non-pharmaceutical ways to help anxiety & depression, 2 of the most common reasons zoloft (sertraline) might be prescribed. Discuss your fear with your physician, and work with him/her about your treatment.

How long can Zoloft (sertraline) take to get out of your system?

Male or woman: Depends. Its half life is long. Average is considered about 24 hours just to get half of it out of your body. It may be 1.5 times longer in women. And, remember, the next 24 hours just gets half of the remaining half out of you.
