Depends: It depends on what test was done. A negative result with an antibody test does not rule out HIV infection at two months after exposure. A HIV nucleic acid test, if negative at about three months after exposure will essentially rule out HIV infection. Other tests fall in-between. You should go back ask for HIV nucleic acid test.
