Not the best option: If true food allergy (antibody mediated), then second generation antihistamines (Loratadine, Zyrtec, Allegra) are of little benefit. Itching/hives from foods occur rapidly (usually within 30minutes and certainly within 2 hours) and disappear rapidly. First generation meds like Benadryl (diphenhydramine) work much more quickly. If other symptoms (breathing, dizziness, nausea), injected epi is critical. (see comment)
