He should be tested: STDs often cause no symptoms. Your friend should be tested for gonorrhea and chlamydia, probably urethral or urine testing, and maybe throat or rectum depending on his sexual exposures and sex partners; and blood tests for syphilis and HIV. Maybe a blood test for hepatitis B virus, but not if he has had the hep B vaccine. If you and he are partners, you should be tested as well. Good luck!
