No: It is not normal, but there isn't an obvious explanation. Possibilities include recurrent stones, unresolved infection, unresolved inflammation from resolved infection or stone, back pain unrelated to kidneys (muscle strain perhaps), etc. Since inflammation of the urinary tract or kidney can cause lasting damage, its worth bringing to the attention of your doc.
