A member asked:

Dr what does it mean if my vag swab result is lactobacili-abnormal?

It may not be: normal if there is any symptom that could be consistent with bacterial vaginosis, or now known as cytolytic vaginosis. It is most often caused by Lactobacillus overgrowth. If you have vaginal itching, discharge, pain during intercourse, or inflammation of the vagina and your swab shows copious Lactobacillus, then you likely need treatment for cytolytic vaginosis. No: Lactobacilli are the beneficial bacteria that are normal in the vagina.
