Possibly blood...: Black-colored vomit in the context you describe is likely bleeding in stomach due to irritation caused by alcohol (or NSAID's like motrin). Blood can be partially digested in the stomach, causing it to turn black. Nerves from the stomach to the brain signal chemical irritation (caused by blood) and initiate the vomiting reflex. The source of bleeding may have stopped in your case, but needs eval.
