Yes: For the best chance of the test being accurate, you should wait until you are late for your period. Some tests claim they can tell if you are pregnant up to 5 days before you are supposed to get your period, but in my experience I have many patients get both false positives and false negatives from these.

It is too early.: For a regular pregnancy test - would wait until a period is missed. Early Response type tests can be used prior to that.
