Keep it moist: A scab in the nostril often is from trauma and usually improves with moisturization, including saline spray or ointment. Occasionally, an antibiotic ointment is required. A scab with severe pain, swelling, or foul drainage can indicate an infection. If the scab fails to improve, medical consultation is recommended to evaluate anything more serious, such as a tumor, is causing the scab.
