Depends: There are two agreed upon effects of vitamin D deficiency, rickets in children and osteomalacia in adults. However, there is controversy about what blood level of vitamin D is normal. Other effects of low vitamin D levels are weakness, falls, aches and pains and may be multiple sclerosis and some cancers. You may safely take 2000 IU of vitamin D3 daily.
