Cannot say in your: particular case. And, often croup leads to infection/pneumonia. Colored or odorous sputum. Fever, chills, shakes can be signs of it. and antibiotics would be helpful

Get re-evaluated: Croup is uncommon in your age, although the barking cough can still be there, anyways, steroids alone might not be helpful , you may very well have sinusitis/bronchitis that needs antibiotic treatment or bronchodilators, please see your doctor again, or seek a second opinion, it's your right
