Let him do it: It's a great binder for paint and a component for putty, and is probably not going to do him any harm and may make him feel better. If he believes all the health claims made for the stuff, he'd be reading uncritically. If he's got any real health issues, he needs to "use his flaxseed oil" in conjuction with something evidence-based.
