I take 21 day birth control, i finished the pack & didn't start my new pack for 7 days. i am 3 days into my new pack, am i protected still?

Yes: most birth control packs are 28 days with last 7 being blanks or placebos. So in the 28 pill packs, you get 21 days of hormone and don't resume the next set of hormone for 7 days. So you should be fine.
