How can I differentiate pink eye from allergic red eyes?

Itching: Both pink eye (a highly contagious infection most often caused by viruses) and allergy eyes can be red, have copious amounts of drainage, and be mattered shut in the mornings. Itching may be the best way to differentiate between the two. Itch is a hallmark for allergic reactions; not much else involves the eyes, ears, nose, and throat like allergies. A doctor can help tell the difference too.

Depends on the cause: Mscle tension headaches are best treated with nsaids (ibuprofen, naproxyn). Some headaches can feel like eye pain. Nausea can be treated with antiemetic medications. The real issue is that the combination of headache, nausea and eye pain should be evaluated by a doctor because they can be part of a more serious underlying problem.

Eye pain: Eye pain can be caused by many entities-- dry eye, allergic conjunctivitis, corneal abrasions are common causes-- viral conjunctivitis can also cause eye pain-- if artificial tears do not help, you should see an ophthalmologist to have the eyes checked.
