Is it usual for boys to have a urine infection?

No: It is more likely for girls to have a urine infection since their urethra is shorter.

NO it is not: so if a male has symptoms, need to check both the urine and a urethral culture for sexually transmitted disease. More likely it is epidydimitis which is an infection of the genital tract from STD. Or there is some anatomical problem with the male genitalia.
