See answer: Selenium does not improve thyroid function in hypothyroid individuals. Selenium deficiency does exacerbate auto-immune thyroiditis and congenital hypothyroidism. Selenium reduces incidence of postpartum autoimmune thyroiditis and reduces anti-thyroid peroxidase levels. Selenium also improves mild Graves opthalmopathy. Magnesium deficiency may play a role in the genesis of hypothyroidism and Graves
