Yep!: it will stay positive if you are pregnant for the length of your pregnancy. Do follow instructions on the kit exactly, and be sure it is not expired. If negative, and you have missed two periods see a doc to confirm with a blood pg test and to check for other causes of amenorrhea (lack of periods).

No: You can pick up a home pregnancy test at the drugstore and all it takes it peeing on a little stick. It measures a pregnancy hormone that is found in your urine. The tests are the most accurate on the day you miss your period or later. It is sometimes easier to read the ones with smiley faces or plus or minus signs rather than the 2 blue lines.

Need a 'control': The test will explain in their instructions, but one thing is universal. There will be 2 indicators. The most important is that there is a 'control.' that is an indication to you that the test is working and should give you an accurate result. After you see that come up then you look to see if it is 'positive' (pregnant) or 'negative' (not pregnant).

Preg with neg test: One can be pregnant with a negative urine test due to a number of reasons; 1. Expired or defective test 2. Done too early 3. Pregnancy may be slow in developing. In any case repeat the test in 1 week and if you feel pregnant and it's still negative see your gynecologist.

Yes: You want to do the test on your urine first thing in the morning (first morning void). There are some kits that can accurately detect pregnancy the first day of your missed period but almost all of them are good within the first week of pregnancy.
