Rib fracture or pain: can cause a tension pneumothorax. Pneumothorax will cause shortness of breath/ hyperventilation as a response. Also mediastinal paralysis and mediastinal pain from referred visceral pain from an abdominal organ, such as liver and gallbladder. Bottom line is you need to get to healthcare provider.
