Colitis (sigmoid) adverse reaction to cipro (ciprofloxacin) and/or flagyl, are there alternative courses of treatment that maybe aren't so harsh?

Depends on cause: Cynthia, if this colitis is due to a bacteria, there are several other alternatives. If it is immune (like IBD/ulcerative colitis), then perhaps you may benefit from mesalamine.
